Teaching in the 21st Century will definitely be challenging and exciting at the same time for us future teachers. Challenging because we will have to keep up with the technology and the speed of improved technology devices. Also, with technology being such an important component, we are going to have a bigger struggle of keeping the students interested and engaged. On the other side of it will be exciting because students will have resources on hand, and/or have quick access to resources to finding information or answers needed in a classroom setting.
Professor Dancealot is about a professor who chooses to teach by Powerpoint. However, the content that he is teaching is ballroom dancing. For a subject like dancing, interactions between students or just student to teacher is important. The video shows how teaching styles have to be adaptable to the subject matter, and the "sit down and listen to teach lecture" was not the right method for this subject.

Teaching in the 21st Century, by Kevin Roberts(John Strange Version) brought an interesting insight on the question, "What it means to be a teacher in the 21st century?". Roberts view on the question is about the same argument on what I believe in. With technology growing, teachers must grow and change their way of teaching to keep it relevant. Even though students now have access to countless amounts of information, Roberts believes that educators should make sure the research is valid. One quote Roberts says is perfect and puts his thoughts all in one sentence, "Teachers are the filters", because it is true that students can get information everywhere and it is the teachers job to filter and direct the students to the "Facts, Content and Skills".
The Networked Student is to me ow students are faced with researching information online. Students are giving ample amount of information to choose from and they have to decide what is true or not. dents is unsupervised in his learning endeavors and is figuring. The video makes you think that the instructor isn't really being a teacher, and making the student figure all the course work on his own through PLNs, wikis, and other informative portals. However, he does still need an instructor to help him start off in the right direction, help him when he is stuck, and give him advice about speaking to these other professors and professionals in an appropriate manner when he wants to make contact. The way the teacher approaches teaching is somewhat how this course is, you have to trust what you already know and figure out what to do, but in reality we are just figuring out how to build our own network and take advantage of our opportunities.
Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts is about Mrs. Davis's class where she lets the students be the teacher sometimes. I believe this is more what today's world of teaching should look like. She looks at their strengths and interests and adjusts the curriculum so that they can learn effectively. I really enjoyed her mentality when it comes to letting the students figure it out and she just guide them along the way. I truly love how she allows students to interact not only with classmates but with students around the world and lets them learn together. She expands their horizons and view of the world and it does empower them to push forward to learn more.
Who's Ahead in the Learning Race? I definitely believe the young ones have a head start in getting and learning information faster than us. However, the undergraduate and graduate level students have ample opportunity to catch up and become more acquainted with new and improving technology. These tools are very useful and will help them expand the ways in which they learn and advance their knowledge. It is fun to use different kinds of technology and tools and is rewarding due to the fact that they are effective, it makes what the future has in store exciting to anticipate.
Flipping the Classroom is a video that brings something different in the classroom. It allows students to have access to the lessons the night before so that the next day they are able to create questions and problems to move forward with the lesson. This will give students the opportunity to access a higher level of thinking by asking, imagining, planning, creating and improving. This provides them with the skills to become more responsible and accountable for knowledge they will need for the following days in class. The only problem I can see from this method is students not coming to class, since they will already know what to expect.
Bringing the Locker Room to the Classroom is another video we watched this week that talks about fully engaging students. In the video the students work the problem out themselves. The students use a form of Socratic method with each other to problem-solve. I played basketball all through high school and could really see the points and how they are similar to " Coaching in the Classroom".
I liked how these videos showed the different views of teaching and also what teachers believe is the essential way for a student to learn information. I believe the best way for a student to learn is through interaction and having a say in how they learn and grow. By putting the student first you are truly telling a student that you care about their education and seeing them excel.
